Lewiston and Auburn frame either side of the great Androscoggin River falls in central Maine. The “Twin Cities” together profited as a major and thriving manufacturing center based in shoes and textiles for most of the first two centuries of European settlement. In the wake of mill and shop closings at the end of the 20th century the community, has responded by greatly diversifying its skills and employment.

With a combined population nearing 60,000, L-A offers an increasing variety of entertainment. Lewiston and Auburn are conveniently located off of the Maine Turnpike I-95 within an hour of Portland, Augusta, and the Maine coastline, only 2½ hours from Boston. Skiing is available in Auburn, hiking in the mountains is less than a two hours’ drive. The area is home to four colleges – Bates College, University of Southern Maine: Lewiston-Auburn, Andover College, and Central Maine Community College.

In all, L-A makes an ideal stop for those visiting the beaches, foliage in the mountains, our state parks, or on the way to Quebec, with local accommodations, dozens of restaurants, and a range of galleries, museums, and theatres.
