Travel Trunk – free rentals still available
Museum L-A’s Traveling Trunk is loaned to classrooms in the greater L-A area for two weeks. Its focus is the textile mills ––including the technology, the mill operatives, and other important people in the community.
Interactive materials are linked to the social studies curriculum, as well as art and technology. Activities include, “Imagine Immigration,” a Textile Design project, “Who’s Who?” game, Build a Time Line, child labor oral histories, and costumes to wear while Journal Writing.
Activities reflect bygone-days, with an emphasis on child laborers. Hands-on activities include instructions, photos, and vocabulary. Ties to your curriculum are in the Teacher’s Manual.
The regular rental fee for two weeks is $25.00, plus a $25.00 security deposit, which will be returned if the trunk and its contents do not need repairs or replacement. Thanks to the generosity of United Insurance Parent Insurance of Lewiston, the Travel Trunk is available free of charge on a first-come basis for the remainder of the 2011-12 school year.
