Museum L-A is located in a 160-year-old building that once produced the world-famous Bates bedspreads.  People of all ages visit Museum L-A and are amazed to see inside the  fascinating former mill and get a glimpse of what it must have been like to work there. Many are unaware of the child labor existed here.

Our programs give young people a chance to explore and discover some of Lewiston and Auburn’s rich heritage of manufacturing. Hands-on history experiences gets them involved with objects and aspects of three industries that have been vital to the life and growth of our community ?textile manufacturing, shoe shops and brick making. These industries affected thousands of local residents since 1850 and continue to influence the culture and spirit of our community. Young people need and enjoy opportunities to understand more about their heritage and history.
