Open House for artists at Museum L-A looks to future collaborations

LEWISTON - Museum L-A  invites local artists to participate in an Open House at the Museum on July 24 from 1 – 3 p.m. to launch a new effort to help promote the  inspiring art work and craftsmanship our state has to offer. “We encourage local artists to collaborate with the Museum by offering their expert input and creating pieces of work inspired by the history and focus of the Museum,” notes  Rachel Desgrosseilliers, Executive Director of Museum L-A.  “We are looking to expand our gift shop and this new venture will be a win-win for everyone,” she continued. “This Open House is a way for us to get to know the artists and for them to get to know us,” said Kayla Obie, project coordinator and summer intern at the Museum.

Museum L-A believes in involving the local community and the Open House gives photographers, painters, wood turners, jewelry designers, glass blowers, and other artists a chance to explore ways they can partner with the Museum. Artists’ are encouraged to provide samples of their art to be viewed.

Museum L-A chronicles the history of work, industry and community in Lewiston-Auburn. Major special exhibits and projects have focused on the local textile, shoe and brick-making industries. Oral history projects document a strong tradition of creativity and innovation, which inspire the Museum’s programs and events. Currently, the Museum is showcasing the rich history and cultural impact of music with a three-year series. “The Roaring 20s to Swing” opened in June, with a monthly Prohibition-themed evening at “Rachel’s Speakeasy.” The organization serves as a community gathering place and creates engaging learning experiences for all. Museum L-A has made a conscious effort to contribute civically, culturally, and economically in the revitalization of Lewiston-Auburn.

This is a new and exciting way for both Museum L-A and Maine artists to join forces in the development of Maine Arts. Please contact Obie at Museum L-A, 207-333-3881 with any questions regarding this event. Pre-registration is encouraged.
